NPSCU Responds to Devastating Alberta Fires with $5,000 Donation

Fort St John, May 9th – Within the past two weeks, wild fires have devastated Northern Alberta regions, displacing individuals and families from their homes. North Peace Savings & Credit Union (NPSCU) has joined the ongoing efforts to help victims with a $5,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross.

Warmer spring paired with lack of precipitation led to the dangerous wild fires that have shattered the city of Fort McMurray. The severity of the destruction caused by the fires has decimated the region’s social and economic position, triggering NPSCU to join the relief efforts. “Giving back to improve the quality of life isn’t exclusive to the regions with our physical footprint,” shared Mitchel Chilcott, CEO North Peace Savings & Credit Union.  “With our deep co-operative roots, we are connected to a sense of community on a wider scale, helping our neighbouring regions impacted by the devastating fires, despite their location.”  NPSCU will be donating the $5,000 from their Social Responsibility program to the Red Cross to assist with relief efforts.

This is not the first time that NPSCU has partnered with the Red Cross to provide financial support. In 2013, NPSCU matched funds raised by members to support humanitarian relief in the Philippines when Typhoon Haiyan struck. The credit union would like to remind people looking to get involved that they can in the following ways:
