Fort St John, August 19– North Peace Savings & Credit Union may be your local financial establishment serving the North Peace and Northern Rockies regions, but its innovative use of technology and innovation has created a widespread buzz capturing both national and global attention.

“Helping our members succeed in life” has been the driving force behind the staff of North Peace Savings & Credit Union (NPSCU). The credit union has evolved to meet the unique personal and business financial needs of the communities in North-East British Columbia. Over the past few years, the credit union has established itself as the go –to financial services provider with its innovative products and services to meet the needs of remote, underserved communities. This accomplishment has been recognized both nationally and internationally.

Across Canada
Our local credit union has been honored to be the recipient of the National Innovation Award from the Credit Union Central of Canada and the Service Innovation Award from Central 1 inNOVAtion Awards. NPSCU was the first to introduce the Personal Teller Machines (PTMs) in British Columbia to connect the north, providing full financial services to low density areas. The credit union has welcomed the success with the PTM technology along with being the resource for other credit unions looking to incorporate this technology in their own branches.

Global Recognition
NPSCU was recently showcased at the 2014 World Credit Union Conference held in Australia. Mitchel Chilcott, CEO of North Peace Savings & Credit Union was asked to speak and he shared his presentation Building Strong Relationships in Low Density Communities. The communities of North- East British Columbia were featured to over 300 credit union attendees from around the world. “As a credit union, we face challenges that any financial institution would incur”, explained Chilcott. “Being in the northern region that we are, we have to be innovative, and face these hurdles from a different perspective.” Chilcott shared that NPSCU’S strategy in using other applications like the PTMs suited member’s needs, as conventional branch designs would not be functional for serving more remote areas.

In January 2015, the name North Peace Savings & Credit Union will be heard in Uganda. Jackie Bishop, Branch Manager of Virtual Services, North Peace Savings & Credit Union, has been selected for the Credit Union Management Coaching Program. With a select group of Canadian credit union candidates, Jackie will be assisting credit unions in Uganda to find innovative ways to meet their member’s needs and help create models to deliver on membership growth.

NPSCU is known for its local appeal to its members and the community. Its flexible products and services have worked to simplify and enrich member’s lives through financial leadership. Its path and success with innovation has presented NPSCU with the opportunity to be a leader and an example for credit unions around the world, putting the North Peace and Northern Rockies region on the map.
