Fort Nelson Food Bank Receives Truckload of Food from North Peace Savings & Credit Union

North Peace Savings & Credit Union’s Fort Nelson team donates over $2,000 to the Fort Nelson Food Bank

Fort St John, June 10th –The Fort Nelson Food Bank can continue to happily feed more families thanks to a generous donation from their local credit union.

The recent slowdown has caused an increase in families relying on services from the Fort Nelson Food Bank. Supporting Warehouse One’s current food drive campaign, the Fort Nelson staff from North Peace Savings & Credit Union (NPSCU) rallied together to assist in the food drive initiative. After an extensive shopping trip, a load of four grocery carts filled the back of a pick-up truck that proudly delivered the donation. In addition to the non-perishable food items that were presented, the team from NPSCU presented Linda Ashdown, Executive Director with a cheque for $1,000.

“We are more than grateful for the credit union’s support,” expressed Ashdown. The Fort Nelson Food Bank served over 750 families last year and expect these numbers to increase. “We function solely through the support of donation from local organizations and the recent downturn has stretched our current resources.”

The team from Fort Nelson used funds raised through their Corporate for a Cause Program. Staff donate $5.00 once a month (which is then matched by NPSCU) in exchange for wearing jeans on Fridays. Twice a year this money is pooled together and the staff decide which local organization to support. In past years, the funds raised through the Corporate for a Cause program has been donated to Sky’s the Limit and the local cadets program.
