Fort St John, August 25 - Five students from the North Peace and Northern Rockies regions will start their post-secondary school year this fall with financial relief from North Peace Savings & Credit Union (NPSCU). NPSCU awarded each student with a bursary of $1000 to place towards their education this year.

Attending a post–secondary institution is often the first exciting step into a student’s developing career choice, unfortunately often paired with a large financial burden. NPSCU recognizes the importance of educational goals and has created a bursary program to assist students in the communities it serves. In addition to completing the application form, students were required to submit a short personal essay accompanied by two references. While NPSCU had many fine applicants for this year’s bursary program, the credit union would like to extend congratulation to the following students and their endeavors this upcoming school year:

Grace Feyissa – will be attending her first year at Augusta University of Alberta to complete a major in Computer Science and a minor in Environmental Studies
Eric Woodruff – will be attending his first year at the University of Victoria to complete a Bachelor of Science
Todd Aalhus – will be attending is first year at Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops to complete a Bachelor of Business Administration
Kiran Waughtal – will be attending Thompson Rivers University to complete her degree in Criminal Justice
Jordan Arthur – will be attending his second year at the University of Fraser Valley, Victoria to complete a Bachelor of Kinesiology

Most recipients will be moving to attend school in the fall. It was shared that this bursary would offset some of the financial costs incurred with living in student housing, in addition to tuition and books. NPSCU wishes the best of luck to all students that participated in this year’s Bursary Program.  “Investing in education provides a strong foundation for skill development, leading to the enhancement and strengthening of our communities,” shared Paul McAfee, VP Service, North Peace Savings & Credit Union. “Being able to provide some relief to the financial stress of post-secondary education is another way in which we help our members succeed in life.”

The NPSCU bursaries are available to high school students who are attending post-secondary school and to post-secondary students who are continuing their education. If you’re planning to attend a recognized college, university or vocational institute for a period of no less than one year, then you are encouraged to apply. The application process opens in the Spring every year. For more information about NPSCU’s Bursary Program, please visit npscu.ca.
