North Peace Savings to Continue Serving Members Under Existing Name

North Peace Savings and Credit Union announced at their Annual General Meeting that they will continue to operate under their current name.

Fort St John, February 5 –Announced at their Annual General Meeting, North Peace Savings will continue to serve its members under its current name. This decision came from the member vote and the results were shared by the Board of Directors.

While the majority of voters were in favor, it was insufficient to move the new name forward. The special resolution for the proposed name change required two thirds (67%) of the votes to be favorable, a number that the vote fell shy of by 4%.  Of the total 550 votes cast, representing 5.7% of the 9,660 eligible member voters, 346 supported the new name bringing the number of favorable votes to 63%. With democratic control being one of the most distinctive features of the credit union system, special resolutions require members to vote on them before they can be set in place.

“I would like to thank our members for their participation during voting week,” expressed Mitchel Chilcott, CEO, North Peace Savings and Credit Union. North Peace Savings will continue to provide services tailored to the unique needs of their members, while fostering the growth of local businesses. “The credit union will continue to action our existing operating plan without losing sight of our strategic purpose,” explained Chilcott. “We remain committed to going the extra mile for our members, being adaptive to both their personal and business financial needs.”
