New Community Washing Machines

For Immediate Release

North Peace Savings provides financial assistance to Hudson's Hope community Laundromat to purchase new washing machines

Hudson's Hope, September 9 - The "out of order" signs will soon be removed from the old washing machines at the Laundromat  in Hudson's Hope as new washing machines will be installed. A $15,000 donation from North Peace Savings will allow the Laundromat to replace five of the old and broken machines.

"Many of the machines are so old that we cannot get parts for them anymore," says Bonnie Nilson, Administrator at the Friends of Hudson's Hope Society. "We were taking working parts from old machines and using them to fix others, but we can only recycle parts so many times before they just stop working completely," added Nilson.

The funds from the Laundromat are put towards helping families with large expenses incurred from travelling for speciality medical services as well as providing food hampers during the holidays. With all machines functioning, the Laundromat takes in $2,000 a month on average to put towards these programs. With several of the machines no longer functioning, this number has drastically decreased thus hindering its ability to give back to the community.

As the only Laundromat in Hudson's Hope, it has become a staple in the community. Summer camp workers and local residents rely on the laundry services, making it crucial for the Laundromat to be functioning at full capacity. The donation will allow the Laundromat to fully serve the needs of the community and thrive in its fundraising endeavours.  “The intent with our social responsibility is to reinforce the notion that we are only as strong as our communities,” explains Mitchel Chilcott, CEO, North Peace Savings and Credit Union. “Leveraging from our support, the Friends of Hudson’s Hope Society’s Laundromat will be able to further deepen their support into the community,” adds Chilcott.
