North Peace Savings and Credit Union Proud Supporter of Fort St. John Library Summer Reading Program

Fort St. John, July 9th - North Peace Savings and Credit Union (NPSCU) has donated $5,000 to the Fort St. John Public Library’s (FSJPL) Summer Reading Program. This program provides free literacy based activities coupled with reading incentives, and is a fun and easy way to help children maintain their reading levels over summer. A cheque presentation ceremony and media event will occur at the Fort St. John Library on Tuesday, July 9th, 2013 at 2:30 pm.

“Increasing literacy rates among children leads to a better, more prosperous future for our entire community,” says NPSCU VP of Services Paul McAfee. “North Peace Savings and Credit Union is proud to invest in our children today, so that their options are open for the future.”

Last year, about 450 children registered for the program, and with a fun theme of “Up, Up, and Away!” and prizes like a helicopter ride, FSJPL’s Kerry France is optimistic about involvement levels for this summer.

Says France, “When a child is away from books for 2 months, their reading level may suffer. The program provides fun incentives to read - or be read to by their parents - and friendly competition. Everyone involved is rewarded for progress and can feel proud of themselves.” The donation came at a financial crunch for the library, says France. “Without the donation from North Peace Savings, we’d have had to cut other programs, so this donation helps both this program and the quality of our programs overall.”
