Three New IPads for Innovative Learning Donated by North Peace Savings and Credit Union

North Peace Savings and Credit Union donated $3,000 to the Community Enrichment Centre for the purchase of three new iPads to assist students in need.

Fort St John, August 5– Innovation is a term that showcases North Peace Savings’ approach to meeting its members’ financial needs. Recently, it has become evident that the word “innovative” is not just for describing its products and services, but can be found in its community investment endeavors as well. The credit union made a $3,000 donation to the Fort St John Community Enrichment Centre for the purchase of three iPads that will assist students with learning disabilities this Fall.

This year, there will be three students transitioning from North Peace Secondary School to the Fort St John Community Enrichment Centre who will be using the iPads. The iPads will be equipped with program called Clicker 6 which will facilitate their learning experience both in and outside the classroom. Clicker 6 hosts a program that provides a means of communication assisted through photos. Janice Fehr of the Community Enrichment Centre explained, “we have students that are non-verbal and have limited writing skills.” Fehr further described how the program would help students by sharing “the iPads will alleviate any communication obstacles, ensuring that students can fully participate in what the Community Enrichment Centre has to offer.” In addition to individual skill development in the adult special education program, the Community Enrichment Centre provides training in literacy, numeracy, problem solving and workplace preparation.

Innovative technology is no stranger to North Peace Savings and Credit Union. The team as North Peace Savings has found ways to provide financial services for members in remote areas using Personal Teller Machines and Smart Offices. “Investing in the use of technology has allowed us to benefit the communities we serve,” explained Paul McAfee, VP of Service, North Peace Savings. “The donation to the Community Enrichment Centre demonstrates another way that innovative thinking and technology can meet the needs of the community.” Whether it be through products and services or through community investment initiatives, North Peace Savings is always looking to help its members succeed in life.
